Across Asia, communities affected by business-related human rights and environmental harms continue to face significant barriers to justice and effective remedy. While laws, grievance mechanisms and judicial processes may exist, the reality on the ground often tells a different story.
⚖️ What makes a remedy meaningful for affected communities? What approaches have worked, what has failed, and why? And how can remedy processes better respond to the lived experiences of workers, communities and environmental rights defenders?
Join the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA), B&HR Access to Justice Lab - Macquarie University, Hasanuddin University, Bangladesh Center for Workers’ Solidarity (BCWS) and Community Resource Centre Foundation for a discussion grounded in community experiences from across Asia.

22 years after the assassination of human rights defender Munir Said Thalib, justice remains long overdue.

22 Years without justice, FORUM-ASIA calls for the rememberance of Munis Said Thalid
22 years ago today, human rights defender Munir Said Thalib was assassinated while travelling to the Netherlands. His murder was not only an attack on one courageous defender; it was an attack on the struggle for human rights and justice in Indonesia, Asia, and globally.
Munir’s assassination remains a stark symbol of the impunity that has allowed perpetrators of serious human rights violations in Indonesia to evade accountability. From the atrocities of 1965 and the enforced disappearances and killings surrounding the Reformasi era to abuses in various parts of Indonesia, victims and their families continue to wait for truth and justice. The failure to confront these abuses risks perpetuating a culture where perpetrators are protected and human rights defenders remain at risk.
22 years later, we remember Munir and stand with all victims and survivors of human rights violations. The Indonesian government must end impunity, ensure meaningful investigations, and hold those responsible for past and ongoing abuses to account.
