If you write a paper and AI is the main driver of the proof, that should go on the first page, mentioned in the abstract or as a footnote in the title and not just buried at the end of the paper. Otherwise you are claiming research that is not quite your own.

So why is it so hard to formalize computational complexity? it's not the hard stuff, but showing algorithms actually sit in polynomial time.

Don’t panic! Nobody knows what mathematics will look like on the other side and it will take us time to figure it out. Wait it out and don’t change your plans. For now choose one of the new results and try to understand the proof. You might learn something new and interesting.
While OpenAI is better (for now) at mathematical proofs, Claude does a better job writing up mathematics. So I had Claude write a new version of the Unique Games paper.

The existential threat from artificial intelligence is not that it will kill us all but that it will take away our relevance.
Some initial thoughts on OpenAI's incredible paper drop (UGC, ω ≤ 9/4, L = BPL) and some earlier AI-assisted work on my open problems.

We’re releasing a broad range of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model.
We’ve been consulting with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study, and we have drawn on their advice and public recommendations to inform how we release these results.

For what it's worth, OpenAI's one-tape TM simulation (assuming correct) immediately implies RAM time t is in SPACE[t^{4/5}]

Not sure why they didn't mention this corollary! That was the whole point of my question.

First off: 🤯. Utterly unreal result.
Second: I'm seeing a lot of complaints about the fact that Anthropic contracted with human experts to write up the paper – but to a first-order, isn't this what the "Responsible Release" guidelines circulated last week say to do?
The what now?!
