I spread winter rye on 150 acres. Hoping to get some growth yet before it freezes. I'm incorporating it with a VT. What depth should I be running? I want the tillage, but I don't want to bury the seeds too deep. Highly variable soils, west central MN

I've been manually adjusting the depth from in the cab. Trying to hit 3.5-4" in the heavy soils and barely scratched 1" on the coarse soils.

Excellent point! 😂
Farming Simulator should be more realistic. Graphite all over your face, probox lids flying off on the highway, hydraulic hose blowing in the back of the field on a Friday night, blown tire, trying to read a Co-op bill, hired hand wrapping the sprayer boom around a pole.

I frequently hear about being "less filtered" on my social media channels outside of YouTube. @pepperboxtv will allow for even more of that, in video format! I'm excited to be a part of this thing! They have some badass creators over there...
We are delighted to welcome The Millennial Farmer to Pepperbox!

Happy "Liberation Day," I guess. It's certainly not my favorite part about my vote, but I'm cautiously optimistic that some good comes from all this. And by "good," I don't mean more subsidies. In your opinion, do we need to "buckle up?"

Glyphosate has 30+ years of data that it doesn’t pose health risks. DID YOU KNOW? Glyphosate LD50 is 5,600 mg/kg Caffeine LD50 is 200 mg/kg Caffeine is 28 TIMES MORE TOXIC than glyphosate AND you actually ingest it at measurable levels. 1/

Randy and I had a little too much fun with the @Farm4ProfitLLC boys last week. If you're a Tik Toker, go support their new page. Apparently, auctioning off silly photos for charity isn't allowed?! #itwasonlyamankini

Just finished the @joerogan podcast with @whiteoakpasture. Very interesting conversation. I was unaware of this episode previously. For conventional farmers (like me), listen with an open mind.

Replying to @joerogan
@joerogan How can anyone think this wouldn't be true? Everyone growing their own food couldn't be less carbon intensive than a system that we've refined over the last couple of centuries?

@joerogan I'm a big fan, but you need to get some farmers on your show. The type of farmers who can have open conversations and be respectful, the way you always are. Please look into it.

I don't think most non-ag people realize that a huge percentage of full-time farmers/ranchers live almost entirely on borrowed money throughout the year. They take out an operating line of credit that pays for living expenses. Interest accrues. Then they hope to have a crop to sell, valuable enough to repay the loan P&I and their other term loans, with a few bucks left over to reinvest in the operation. I'm not sure of another occupation where this is common practice.

I'm hopping on a plane to Louisville for NFMS. Hit me with some questions for in-flight entertainment. Also, who else will be there?

I'm not saying land is a bad investment, but prices and interest in my area are currently double what they were in 2016. Coming up with 30% of double the price isn't easy, especially when working capitol is currently on fire in most operations.
Did an in-depth analysis of a farm I bought in 2016. Interesting results of those 9 growing and marketing years from it. Averaged 6.53% cash return per year. (2020 & 2021 best years. 2022 & 2023 droughts worst) Averaged 8.79% appreciation rate per year. Makes my IRR at 15.32%

I hope the Eagles lead nearly the entire game. I hope it's 42-3 after the 3rd quarter, and then the Chiefs come back to win it in the last 8 seconds.

This showed up in the mail recently. Does it make me more important than anyone else? Of course not. Does it make me a better farmer than others? Hell no. Am I proud of it? Damn right. #cryaboutit Thanks @FarmconConf!

Yep.
I know tensions are a little high right now, but from first hand experiences and from conversations with ppl down there… they respect the hell outta us and…. vise versa, so let’s all just stay calm, none of us regular folks want this, we work better when we’re on the same side 🇨🇦🇺🇸👍
