Our National Chair @tinamckenz has launched today's report by the Small Business Regulatory Taskforce, alongside Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, and Small Business Minister Lord Leong.
14 out of the 15 red-tape-cutting measures put forward by the taskforce - which was co-chaired by Tina - have been agreed to by the government, including a reversal of plans by Companies House to force even the smallest businesses to file full profit-and-loss accounts.
"Very few people start a business because they are passionate about regulatory compliance."
📻Speaking to @LBCNews, FSB Policy Director Paul Wilson explains why today’s Small Business Regulatory Taskforce Report is an important first step towards a regulatory system which is far more aware of small businesses' needs.
📄The report contains a raft of recommendations to make red tape less of a burden to small firms. Listen here 👇
FSB members: Do you have experience of international trade and want to help shape the policies that affect small businesses? 🌍
We’re looking for an FSB member to join our UK Policy Committee (UKPC) and bring their experience of buying or selling internationally, or supporting businesses that do.
It’s an opportunity to help make sure the realities facing small businesses are reflected in FSB’s thinking and policy work on international trade.
You’ll have the opportunity to shape FSB’s campaigning and help make the case for an environment where more small businesses can better trade internationally.

We're very pleased to see the Commercial Payments Bill successfully made it through the House of Lords this week - a huge step towards stamping out late payments for good after more than 20 years of FSB campaigning.
⏰ Late payments cost small firms £11 billion every year, but they aren't just bad for small businesses and the self employed; they're bad for growth, local communities, employees, and the economy as a whole.
✅ The Bill will now move to the House of Commons for the next stage of Parliamentary scrutiny.
🇪🇺 We had a productive meeting with the new EU Ambassador to the UK, Jukka Salovaara, discussing some of the key issues for small international traders, including how to streamline UK-EU trade and the importance of improving economic cooperation to strengthen security.
🌱 FSB's @tinamckenz raised the importance of the next few weeks for small businesses - with the UK-EU SPS agreement reaching its final stages of negotiation, and the UK-EU Ministerial summit now less than a month away.
💼 Increasing Small Business Rate Relief to £25,000.
💼 Uprating the Employment Allowance to help with employment costs.
💼 Removing 75% of Renewables Obligation costs from small business energy bills.

@heraldscotland has launched a fantastic campaign today calling on the Scottish Government to "Reset the Rates" and lift some of the pressure on many of the country's small businesses. Great impactful work by @ScottWWright @ianmcconnellHT @SalmondSalmond and all the Herald team
📆 There's just over a week left until the Autumn #Budget2026, and FSB's @tinamckenz has been speaking to the Chancellor about the measures small businesses want to see.
💼 We're campaigning for Small Business Rate Relief to be increased to £25,000 to help the smallest firms to grow, and with rising employment costs putting many small firms off hiring, we're calling for the Employment Allowance to be uprated to help employers take on more, particularly younger, staff members 👇

✅ Increasing the Small Business Rate Relief threshold to £25,000 and up-rating the Employment Allowance in the #Budget2026 will help to drive growth and create jobs.
🎙️ Following meetings with the Chancellor and Prime Minister today, FSB's @craigie_b told @MattChorley on @bbc5live about the measures small firms are looking for in the Autumn Budget.

An early start at 11 Downing Street for a #Budget2026 breakfast with the Chancellor, for @fsb_policy
Making the case for small businesses, high streets, retail, hospitality and leisure for ‘Budget and Beyond’
Among mainly big business voices, I focused on costs and jobs - 1) increasing Small Business Rates Relief and 2) the Employment Allowance would boost growth, investment and employment in every postcode.
And give small and micro businesses some much-needed breathing space.
@hmtreasury @JohnHealey_MP
💼 With the Autumn #Budget2026 only a couple of weeks away, FSB's @craigie_b has been setting out the key issues for small businesses to the Chancellor, and the actions he could take support them:
✅ Increasing Small Business Rate Relief from the current £12,000 threshold to £25,000 would remove at least 250,000 more small businesses from paying rates - giving them vital room to grow.
✅ With rising employment costs putting off many small firms from hiring, uprating the Employment Allowance, then indexing it in line with the National Living Wage would be a lifeline for small businesses looking to take on more, particularly younger, members of staff.
💷 By increasing the SBRR threshold from £12,000 to £25,000 at the Autumn Budget, the Chancellor could unlock growth by removing at least 250,000 more small businesses from paying rates, we told @emilyhwkns at @DailyMailUK ⤵️
dailymail.com/money/markets/…
Our new findings show that more small firms would invest, recruit and grow if Small Business Rate Relief were to be expanded 🏬
💼 That's why we're calling on the Chancellor to increase the SBRR threshold to £25,000 at the upcoming Budget.
