Film Series | Schwartz Athlete Spotlight Shaun Aguirre @aguirreshaun4 Pasadena High School QB/RB/ATH 5'11 185 Lbs. Defenders have to account for more than his straight line speed. He can draw them toward one track, change direction with quick feet and accelerate out of the adjustment. The designed quarterback run at :15 captures that well. He stays behind his blockers and presses the interior before jump cutting outside toward the boundary. I love how little time passes between the cut and his burst upfield. He eats up grass quickly, giving pursuit little room to recover once he clears traffic. His run at 1:50 shows a different way of accessing that explosiveness. He paces his approach through the first level, then cuts toward the boundary and hits another gear to pull away. The acceleration is clear, but the timing makes it effective. Defenders tracking his initial pace have to adjust as he changes direction and opens his stride. That is where his feel as a runner shows up. He knows when to stay with the blocking long enough to influence pursuit and when to leave that track. From the QB/RB role, his combination of tempo control, sudden lateral movement and breakaway speed puts pressure on the defense to stay disciplined throughout the run.
