Fascinating political moment right now, as gun lobby and allies recognize they're *massively* on the wrong side of public opinion and have to figure out some kind of Houdini trick to escape.

The NRA thinking: "They're just kids. They'll get all excited about their proms or their Facebook walls or something; maybe some new singer or fashion trend. Don't worry. They'll forget." Not this time.

This money should be spent on something that actually helps our troops and veterans. We always hated parades anyway! I'm supporting HR 4980, the #PARADEAct, to prohibit this waste of resources. xitter.cf/benyc/status/963855068…
WH Budget Director Mulvaney to House Budget Cmte on potential military parade: “The estimates I’ve seen, they’re very preliminary, is between $ 10 and 30 [million] depending upon the length. Obviously an hour parade is different from a five-hour parade in terms of the cost.”

Banning bump stocks is a positive step, but it’s too late for the victims in Las Vegas. And it wouldn’t have saved any of the victims in #Parkland. The goal shouldn’t be just revising our gun laws after massacres, it should be real action to prevent them from ever happening.

I agree with Bill Gates. At a time of massive income and wealth inequality, the last thing Congress should do is give huge tax breaks to billionaires. The very wealthy should be paying more in taxes, not less. marketwatch.com/story/bill-g…

In 2005, the @NRA successfully lobbied for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. It shields gun manufacturers from being sued by victims of their wrongdoing. Congress has done more to protect gun manufacturers from lawsuits than to protect children from mass shootings.

Teachers dedicate their lives to working with kids to inspire them, not to fight them. Too many fires? Let’s buy more matches... “Buy teachers guns” is the kind of thing a person selling guns would say. xitter.cf/painterhs74/status/965…

As a candidate, Donald Trump said he understood the pain that working families were feeling. Well, you’re not responding to that pain, Mr. President, when you kick 500,000 families out of their homes by gutting affordable housing programs.

In the military, troops understand that on their worst day they may need to expose themselves to enemy fire to do their job. That should never be the case for an American here at home. xitter.cf/MSDEagles/status/96405…
It is with Great sadness that our Football Family has learned about the death of Aaron Feis. He was our Assistant Football Coach and security guard. He selflessly shielded students from the shooter when he was shot. He died a hero and he will forever be in our hearts and memories

Heads of @CIA, @FBI, @NSAGov, @ODNIgov and @NGA_GEOINT all agree that Russia will continue to interfere in our elections. Yet @realDonaldTrump refuses to enforce new sanctions nor explain why. We shouldn’t need a Kremlinologist to explain the @WhiteHouse’s decisions.

The Trump budget is morally bankrupt and bad economic policy. It pays for his tax breaks for the rich and large corporations by slashing Medicaid by $1.3 trillion, cutting Medicare by $554 billion and slicing $10 billion from the Social Security Disability Insurance Program.

Republicans want to increase defense spending by more than $150 billion over the next 2 years. Meanwhile, this same Republican Party hasn't reauthorized spending for the Children's Health Insurance Program or Community Health Centers.

This government #shutdown is perfectly representative of the chaos of the #Trump Administration at the one year mark. 365 days of screwing Americans.

All over this country are decent people who tell their kids, don’t judge people based on the color of their skin or the country they came from. Judge them on whether or not they are good human beings. We have a president telling the world that's not what he does.

I'm not sure why President Trump wants to shut down the government over an $18 billion wall that no one wants, isn't needed and Mexico won't pay for. What the American people want, overwhelmingly, is to provide legal protection and a path toward citizenship for 800,000 Dreamers.

I don't know why President Trump and Republicans want to shut down the government over a wall no one wants and an unprecedented $100 billion increase in military spending. What the American people want is to protect Dreamers and working families. washingtonpost.com/opinions/…
