Whilst I've never felt vengeful or rage as a symptom of emotional neglect: I definitely learned to swallow my emotions, and not value them. I think that's why I turned to songwriting. It was the best way I found to put words to my feelings and have them both heard and honored.

Tomorrow's my birthday. Music helped me explore who I was. Now I help others find their voices, too. Still learning. Still creating. Learn more about my music: emmagmusic.com Join the Emma G Nation community: emmagmusic.live/emmagnation

What's something you used to love doing until somebody made you feel you weren't good enough at it? Maybe it's time to try it again. Not to prove anything. Just because you liked it.

Busking again: I took my guitar to Silver Spring Farmers Market and remembered how much I love making music without a complicated production. What's your favorite unexpected live-music memory?

I'm amazing: I turned the words 'I'm amazing' into a singing exercise with a student who was afraid of making mistakes. We laughed, experimented and made room for her voice. What words would you like to practice saying about yourself?

The cost of waiting: How many creative ideas stay in notebooks because we're waiting to feel ready? Practice matters, but participation matters too. What could you share before it feels perfect?

The quiet singer: One of my young students preferred singing with others because she could hide her voice. We worked on letting her be heard, one small phrase at a time. Where do you find yourself holding back?

Perfect is boring. Connection isn't.: A wrong note can be a moment of learning, not a verdict on your talent. When was the last time you enjoyed something without grading yourself?

I started writing songs as a kid trying to make sense of hydrocephalus and repeated brain surgeries. Years later, I wanted my music to help others feel less alone. Learn more about my music: emmagmusic.com Join the Emma G Nation community: emmagmusic.live/emmagnation

How much of yourself have you edited to meet other people's expectations? I wrote a song about that at 23. Puppet comes out November 8—my birthday. emmagmusic.hearnow.com/puppe…

What if we helped young people build confidence, communication skills & ways to navigate stress BEFORE life gets overwhelming? That's why I teach songwriting. And why my upcoming single ā€œPuppetā€ matters: finding your voice shouldn't have to wait until breaking point. šŸŽ¶ Nov 8

Your voice is more than a communication tool. Singing involves breathing, movement, attention, and expression. You don't have to be a professional singer to explore what your voice can do.

By age 12, I'd had 10 brain surgeries. I'd also written around 500 original songs. Music helped me find words when I didn't know how to explain what I was experiencing. One of my 1,000+ songs is ā€œPuppet,ā€ written at 23 and finally releasing Nov 8. Your voice matters. šŸŽ¶

Try writing three sentences: Right now, I'm feeling... What I wish people understood is... What I need to remind myself is... You might have just written the beginning of a song.

You don't need to fix everything right now. Sometimes being ā€œthe strong oneā€ becomes another role we feel pressured to perform. That's one connection to my song Puppet: questioning who we're expected to be. Out Nov 8: emmagmusic.hearnow.com/puppe…

Confidence isn't always loud. Sometimes it's singing one line without apologizing. Sometimes it's saying what you mean. Sometimes it's allowing yourself to be heard.

Eli Lev: ā€œI don't have an accent.ā€ Me: ā€œYou have an AMERICAN accent, sir.ā€ šŸ˜‚ Mine's a mashup of NZ, Fiji & 11 years in the US. And I wouldn't change it. Being yourself doesn't mean fitting into one box. That's part of why I wrote ā€œPuppet.ā€ šŸŽ¶ Nov 8.

Who gets to write our story? Our past? Our circumstances? Other people's expectations? I wrote ā€œPuppetā€ at 23 because I was tired of being told who to be. Now I help young people find their own words through songwriting. Different stories. Same belief: our voices matter. šŸŽ¶ Nov 8

When did singing become something we had to be GOOD at to enjoy? You don't need perfect pitch, a record deal, or an audience. Sometimes you just need to SING.

Are you stressed, or just good at hiding it? Sometimes the mask we wear isn't about pretending to be someone else. It's about pretending we're okay. That's one connection to my song Puppet: the pressure to become who others expect. Out Nov 8 : Puppet

By age 12, I'd had 10 brain surgeries and written around 500 original songs. I didn't start songwriting to build a career. I started because I needed a way to express what I was going through. Today, I've written 1,000+ songs. Music became my voice. šŸŽ¶ā¤ļø
