Enjoyed this interview & the approach to hyperlocal is not wrong, 15 years ago I started a social network just like this, I think it was too much, too soon. So looking forward to what @EliPariser is building & happy to give advice and support as I actually did build a prototype.
.@elipariser is one of the smartest people I've talked to about digital spaces. He often sees how technology is going to influence human interaction before it actually does. On the most recent episode of my podcast, he laid out the case for why AI is about to change social media in profound ways.
Here are a few key points. 1/ youtube.com/watch?v=Y7CWvV3_…

"I think it's going to be a really big reconfiguration of where value is in information production."
@elipariser talks to @maxwelltani and @semaforben about the future of AI summarization — and why news may be uniquely vulnerable:
15 years ago, I wrote a book called The Filter Bubble, warning that algorithmic personalization was going to fracture our shared reality.
I’m sharing new research because AI is coming for the info environment, and fast.

1️⃣Most of the digital ecosystem we know is about to get destabilized by AI – rapidly
2️⃣The same forces breaking the old era are going to give us some new choices and options
3️⃣Those of us who care about the public good need to show up while the defaults are still being written
It’s a big day for our team – @WeAreNew_Public is starting to test out our new community platform Roundabout with real people.
I’m excited to share more with everyone in the coming months.
We're still filling a funding gap for the project, so reach out if you have leads

Here’s Bard vs GPT-4 on a riddle I came up with. The test was for whether it would say “8 bananas” (incorrect) or “need more info” (correct). GPT-4 nails it, Bard fails in every way possible.
