I’m so grateful to have been awarded 2 Ideas Grants ($2.8M total). I’m really excited to grow my team and see what we achieve over the next 4 years.
Both projects are on Streptococcus pyogenes: 1) studying immune responses after infection, 2) developing a man therapy for iGAS.
Congratulations to our six National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Ideas Grants awardees and their hardworking teams, who have received a total of $9.3 million in funding for eight projects.
A/Prof @DrDanikaHill (Infectious Diseases) and A/Prof @Ross Dickins @DickinsLab (Australian Centre for Blood Diseases) were each awarded not just one, but two grants.

Our annual report is here and what a year it’s been.
With your support we have achieved:
- £11.07 million spent on research, awareness and education, bringing our total research contribution over the last 10 years to £71m!
- 2,680 people joined #TeamKidney raising £1.3m for research
- 278 volunteers gave their time, their skills and their voice
- 56 new research grants were awarded
Sandra Currie, chief executive said: "We appreciate every donation that has enabled this, increasing our research investment over the year to almost £11 million. Every day I am reminded of the urgency of our work. Thank you for being part of making it count – we are so grateful for your ongoing support."

100% out of my comfort zone, but an honour & a privilege to be asked to speak at #Drivingdiscoveries today.
Sharing my inner most thoughts & fears was hard, but essential to do so to give an understanding of why the research funded by @Kidney_Research is so imperative.
A special thank you to Melina, who captivated the room by sharing her story and highlighting what #KidneyResearch means to her and her son Charlie, who has nephronophthisis.
Hearing the emotion from her personal journey throughout the speech is a firm reminder that we are more than just research.
We are a community, advocates of people living with kidney disease, and we put patients at the heart of everything we do.

LFDs are of course great for lots of pathogens. But we tested 5 different commercial #Mpox *antibody* LFDs to see their utility for diagnostic/surveillance use, and they aren't great...from 0% to 56% sensitive!
