STOP THE COUNT! YOUTUBE HAS SEEN ENOUGH!
We have a winner, and it was... NOT "Does He Know" 2.0. Those of you hating our forcing of the meme have been vindicated by 52% of the viewers who preferred this alternate version of our thumbnail.
Here is the victor-ious thumbnail, with does-he-know Easter Eggs hidden throughout by @JoshuaSHurd ...
This is a gross mischaracterization of what I said. My concerns that a tool like this would have to be used, and my repeated hopes that they would find ways to not have to use it, are in NO WAY an endorsement of those tools.
I understand outrage farming is a fun way to get engagement on here, but this is inappropriate.
I know there's a lot of passion around using AI at all in the VFX process which is why I repeatedly labeled my speculation as conjecture and not any actual news reporting. If you wanted to start an actual discourse around this, a clip of what I actually said, in context, would have been fair. Repeatedly misquoting me is not.
Whatever is going on, I hope Matt Reeves is OK.
EXCLUSIVE: Production is pausing on the Warner Bros and DC Studios pic 'The Batman Part II' due to director Matt Reeves stepping away for personal reasons.

I quite liked DIGGER. It's going to be divisive -- the film's marketing campaign only shows part of what this movie ultimately is. (No, it's not a secret musical.) I wasn't sure why Tom Cruise wanted to do a movie like this. He can get awards attention in other ways. And why did it have to be in VistaVision?
But after seeing Digger, I get it. It's a huge idea, in small packaging, shot with grand spectacle and style. Digger Rockwell is to Tom Cruise's body of work what Riggan / Birdman was to Michael Keaton. Jerry Maguire, Magnolia, Tropic Thunder... it's all there in the multitudes of Cruise's performance.
One could call it derivative of that other Iñárritu film, I think I prefer Emmanuel Lubezki having graduated out of the showy oners and into a more visually exquisite format. Digger has even loftier aims in exploring the very purpose of art in the world we live in.
Yes, a story like this *does* need to be in a format like VistaVision. I was lucky to see a screening projected in that format, and the level of detail and theatricality brought out definitely served the intention.
It's interesting to see the discourse among reviews reflecting the exact argument in my favorite scene of the movie. Once everyone knows what this movie is, Tom Cruise choosing it as his project between legacy sequels makes a lot of sense.
I'll admit that even understanding the film's conceit doesn't make the extreme clowning always fun to watch, or always fun to appreciate even in an exploitative sense. It will test the patience of some. But I admire its boldness, and I think viewers will be breathless when the credits roll.
With respect to all Imagineers -- some of the coolest and most hardworking and creative people ever -- I believe there's an easy fix here:
"New York streets" are very do-able on any studio backlot or theme park.
A Disney "Marvel Manhattan" could have an Avengers Tower, Sanctum Sanctorum, Baxter Building, Wakandan Embassy, Josie's Bar... (maybe also Oscorp & Daily Bugle pending clearance).
Alternatively, Mutant Campus is a solid theme park setting. The X-Mansion as the landmark + Danger Room + Cerebro + quad of statues of iconic heroes.
You could go the Radiator Springs approach and build Wakanda or the TVA or Latveria or Knowhere or Xandar or Asgard or the Blue Area of the Moon. You could go the Batuu approach and invent a whole new land / dimension where all fun Marvel landmarks can exist. Call it a new region of Battleworld.
I don't know why this is treated like an impossible issue.
Joe Rohde on the challenges of adapting Marvel into the Disney Parks.
“Marvel is a character brand. When we watch these movies or read the comics, our primary investment is in the psychology of the character. Spider-Man is a great example of this. Spider-Man’s life is a constant emotional crisis of one kind or another. It’s almost more of a soap opera format. So, you have an art form — the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Marvel Comic Universe — in which settings are disposable and are disposed of in order to drive character development. That works great in a film, but when it comes to place-making, it is difficult to lock yourself on the experiences of places, which is part of what makes theme parks theme parks. All through your day in a theme park the primary actor you engage with is the architecture and the landscape."

I understand Marvel's theme park rights might partially be tied up at Universal with Island of Adventure's "Marvel Superhero Island."
But surely if Avengers Campus can exist, Marvel Manhattan can take its place?
Does a NYC-coded Manhattan conflict with the west-coast theme of DCA? Someone please explain this to me.
Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is filled with horrid surprises and grounded dissociative humor. I really enjoyed it. The first two thirds is masterfully shot and perfectly edited survival horror. The final third is madcap Cabin in the Woods fun.
Like Weapons and Barbarian, Cregger’s flavor of fear forces you through some tonal swings and choices that you just have to go with. But the guy really knows what he’s doing.
Austin Abrams has made a real turkey dinner out of “running scared” and I could watch him do it in 100 more movies.

I don’t know what was creepier about my @HorrorNights experience — the demonic face we accidentally captured in the smoke, or what Freaky Nikki said to me when I thought she was obsessed with the dude in front of me…
