A Thursday throwback to the 1998 Detroit Grand Prix when defending CART Series champion Alex Zanardi cruised to victory on Belle Isle, finishing 6 seconds ahead of runner-up Adrián Fernández. After the checkered flag and with team owner Chip Ganassi’s blessing, Zanardi served up a baker’s dozen celebratory donuts across Turns 1, 3 and 5 of the track - as only he could!

At this summer’s Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, @imsa welcomed local high schoolers to the race paddock through its STEM initiative to get an up-close look at the engineering, mechanical prep, team work and communication it requires to compete at the highest levels of motorsports. Throwing it back to 1991: The 10th annual Detroit Grand Prix featured this iconic official poster by artist Ken Karam with a blazing red Indy car evolving from a technical design to racing on the streets of Detroit, commemorating the final event hosted Downtown - until the Grand Prix’s return to the city streets in 2023.

TBT 1997: The battle for the win at the 1997 Detroit Grand Prix came down to one thing - fuel. Greg Moore, just 22 and in his second CART season, had enough fuel to make it to the checkered flag for the Player’s Forsythe Racing team. PacWest Racing teammates Mark Blundell and Mauricio Gugelmin did not as both drivers ran out of fuel on the final lap, opening the door for Moore to take a dramatic victory on Belle Isle.

What a finish at the Brickyard! 🏁 A late-race charge and decisive pass on Earl Bamber in the No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac V-Series.R with just over five minutes remaining delivered victory for Sheldon van der Linde, Dries Vanthoor and BMW M Team WRT in today’s @IMSA Battle on the Bricks at @ims.
