The people are not always right. Moral courage is always necessary in leadership. And we cannot ever think that we have permanently vanquished the ideas that Trump and so many others before him have used to lead so many Americans astray. nytimes.com/2024/11/03/opini…

Yes, I’m sure that with both feet safely planted on the ground, you’re convinced that if you were a 20-year-old pilot facing imminent death, your final radio call would be a masterclass in composure, delivered with perfect calm. You’re so proud of yourself and your imagined courage.

Writing this in my personal capacity, but I have been flying these types of aircraft for more than 20 years, with over 8,000 hours, and have reasonable familiarity with how the charter world operates. I feel compelled to post after seeing commentary about the Lear 60 crash, from missile strikes to DEI to critiquing this poor woman’s final radio calls. That last part is what I find most troubling. She was the second-in-command (SIC), and while she was empowered to point out mistakes as part of good crew resource management, she was doing her job, communicating with ATC right to the end in a terrifying situation. She likely knew before many of those calls that she was going to die. I have heard final calls from friends, from military pilots with thousands of hours in fighter aircraft, and they are just as heartbreaking because they know the end is approaching. I understand the public interest given the footage and audio. But you do not know the aircraft’s maintenance history, whether there was a structural failure, if any failure was induced by turbulence, overspeed, or overcontrol, or everything happening in that cockpit. I am sure weather will be part of the investigation, but beyond that, it is speculation. The charter industry routinely hires commercial pilots very early in their careers to gain experience alongside an ATP-qualified captain before they move up to the airlines. She would still have the appropriate training, qualifications, and checkouts by an FAA examiner or designee. Let people investigate, learn, and share the facts. Be respectful to those who perished and the families who carry their memories. God bless them and their loved ones.

I’ll make this clear for those who mean well and also for those who don’t: If abortion is a “state issue” then the issue is effectively settled. Abortion pills are sent via mail. That’s federal. And that’s how most people abort their kids now. If you say it’s a state issue in 2026, you are pro-choice.

Oh, you mean like the chief executive who pledged to keep abortion pills accessible (and has kept that pledge), promotes IVF, has said that pro-lifers need to be flexible on the Hyde amendment, and has actively fought state-level measures against abortion? That executive?

“Your representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgment; and he betrays you instead of serving you if he sacrifices it to your opinion.”
I have been clear about this issue time and time again and I will not allow Abdul to lie about my position. This decision is one of the hardest decisions a woman will make in her entire life and it should be handled with her family and her doctor. Period. The Michigan voters went to the ballot box and made a woman’s right to choose part our State Constitution and as Michigan’s next Senator I will never go to Washington and overturn the will of the Michigan people.

Well said.
my view is if Democrats don't want the NY Times reporting their involvement in schemes to defraud the voters of Alaska, they could easily avoid this by refusing to do that sort of thing.

There is a zero percent chance the WSJ would have rolled the dice on publishing this if they couldn't 100 percent authenticate it. And they did. The card is real.

Some Democrats are reacting to our Alaska Senate race investigation with "whataboutism" arguments and saying, "now investigate Trump." It's striking to see because a lot of what people know about Trump's actions came from Times investigative reporting. Here are some examples.

You can tell how awful China would have become without communism by looking at the great desitution in Singapore and Taiwan
If Chiang Kai-Shek had won, today China would be utterly poverty-stricken, have zero nuclear weapons, and would probably be host to a lot of U.S. military bases
