So @TylerShultz_ as a Theranos whistleblower. And he wrote the piece you need to read about ‘You Can See Everything.’
Elizabeth Holmes is still lying, he says. And the filmmakers, while creating a great piece of art, fall short on looking outside the walls of her apartment to document that.
One key detail: "My wife had to squeeze my arm to prevent me from jumping out of my seat in the theater and screaming, THAT IS NOT THE DEVICE."
Again, that device Holmes showed? It's not the one we're talking about!!!!
Having seen the film, I basically agree with Tyler's take.

I’m loathe to give @bills fans credit for anything, but it really is impressive how many of them are here in Vegas.
Devyn Valandra isn't competing with Dario or Elon. But what he's doing is just as challenging — trying to grow a startup in the literal and figurative badlands (with assists from @ClayHaddock and @bgurley)

In light of @elonmusk pledge, thinking back to this story from nearly three years ago.

A reminder that while Elizabeth Homes was convicted only of wire fraud, her actions were very dangerous and reckless.
In 2015 I met with a Silicon Valley exec w/ thyroid cancer who got a very worrisome result via a Theranos blood test at a Walgreens.
Had docs just followed the Theranos results, he would have gotten the wrong meds, putting his health at risk. Luckily, he first went to Stanford for another test.
"I'm very fortunate to have great medical care and have been very diligent in tracking my results over a period of years," the executive told me in 2015. "But what if I was newly-treated, or had an overworked or young doctor who didn't react by realizing that this result was so far out of line? This isn't about a startup not doing a grocery delivery properly. It's about people's health, people's lives."

A few readers have taken me to task for “missing the point of the film,” which is apparently that Elizabeth Holmes is unknowable and everything is ambiguous. Here’s my response: She went after Tyler Shultz and Erika Cheung with everything she had. I was threatened with litigation on a daily basis for months on end. It was a ruthless cover-up of a breathtaking fraud, and she was at the controls. Just a little context for those who have forgotten or didn’t follow the original story. By the way, I loved the film. #BestPicture, IMO.
A ton of people have asked me for my thoughts about “You Can See Everything,” the new Elizabeth Holmes documentary. Here they are: nytimes.com/2026/10/17/busin… via @NYTimes

October 17, 2004: Kevin Millar famously warns the Yankees, "Don't let us win today." They refuse to listen.
I get the argument, but isn’t a16z invested in SpaceX?
Ben Horowitz explains why a16z doesn't invest in neoclouds after living through the dotcom bubble
"If you get into a pathological debt situation, that can wreck anybody. It's why, by the way, we're not invested in any of these neoclouds, for that reason. That whole thing scares me, having been through it."
"It can end up being a very dangerous arbitrage business where you can get upside down easily."
"You look at Loud Cloud just as an example, here's a simple thing that happened to us in 1999. Bandwidth was $1,500 a megabit. And you couldn't get it, it was very hard to get. And so you had to get a long-term contract, three years."
"By 2001 it was $50 a megabit. So if you were holding bandwidth, you were just dead."
"So that kind of thing is so out of the control of the entrepreneur. And so different than what we'd like to fund. That, you know, it just scared me to death."
Spoke w/ NYC comptroller who says reports of discussions w/ Anthropic are "overblown."
The only interaction is that he sent a letter and Anthropic confirmed receipt.
Sure, there is an argument that taking Anthropic public exposes all sorts of new retail investors/retirees to a company w/ giant safety risks.
But at this point, many of those investors are already exposed. Mutual funds have pieces, and then there are all the public partners.
People tell me I type very loudly. Didn't used to believe them, but then learned that most folks don't wear out laptop keyboards every 14 months.
Finished Michael Lewis' new book, Blockers. Some fascinating stories about DOGE vs. civil service (all end in similar, depressing fashion) and the determined efforts of @shl to fix an IRS water fountain.
Have been hearing both sides of this meeting for years. Crazy how consequential it was given that no one can agree what was really said.
