In his memoir “From Staircase to Stage”, Rae recalled Q-Tip arranging a meeting with DiCaprio over pizza in Brooklyn, discussions with the actor’s production company followed, but Rae said RZA favored a television series.
“I kept my cool and didn’t spaz out on him, but in my heart I knew more than ever that his relationships in Hollywood mattered more to him than his relationship with us. He was burying a dream deal over pride”.
Wu-Tang’s story eventually became Hulu’s Wu-Tang: An American Saga.

Tyler Perry says being related to him didn’t mean getting a lifetime paycheck.

“Listen, you’ve got 60 days to become gainfully employed because I’m not going to keep supporting you like this”.
He also recalled giving his aunt a job after repeated requests for money, then firing her when she kept missing work.
According to Perry, the deadline worked: his relatives found jobs.

Speaking to Popkiller in 2018, Coolio recalled recording with Pac after his release from prison. DJ Wino produced the track, but once they finished, the session turned into an argument about money.
Coolio said Wino lowered his fee from $3,000 to $500, but Pac still wouldn’t agree:
“He told the engineer to erase the track, and he erased it. And I’m sure The Wino regrets that now”.

“Our greats have been stolen from and ripped off of!” 🐐🔥👀
Nas shared a message on Instagram calling out the industry’s treatment of its pioneers and urging artists to put purpose above trends:
“For the past year I’ve been watching so much happen in the culture while working on music. I think about how it started, I think about the Mississippi Delta to New Orleans to New York. I think about Robert Johnson at the crossroads, how he changed music, and how we can’t even find his grave.
Sometimes I look at all artists, creators and executives the same way. The music game forgets or doesn’t compensate the foundation. Our greats have been stolen from and ripped off of.
We can’t keep creating music for the sake of a “trend”. We have to remember the purpose and our contribution and how many things we created. Where’s the love for each other at… We gotta take a stand as one. It’s time for a celebration of the music.
No Knowledge of self is certain death!
It’s time to address it.
Love y’all,
Nasir Jones
