I thought this thing would have left my head but Omo, e no gree comot at all 😂🥲
Last night I had a “potential mentor” meeting for the CCF SOC Accelerator bootcamp with a Cybersec expert.
We introduced ourselves. Solid babe. Calm energy.
Then she drops it:
“I know you. You interviewed me for Cyblack internship in 2024.”
Omor, I froze. I no remember anything.
I had to open my mailbox to look the 2024 meeting details.
I also found her X DM she sent after she got accepted, with my response “I’m rooting for you.”
This lady has soared!!.
In two years she has done things that if she never told me herself, I would have sworn we never met.
Then the memories started hitting.
I remember sitting in front of that PC in my former workspace that afternoon.
- I saw the name “Oly babe”
- She turned on her camera.
- Computer Science student.
- Talking freely about the intersection of CS and Cybersec.
- Talking about what she wanted to squeeze out of that internship.
- Talking like somebody who already knew she wasn’t going to stay average.
Most importantly, the “I am not the regular student” energy aura was around her that day
The same energy I used to see in myself and my people back in FUTA.
Real recognizes Real.
Then the question landed heavy:
What if I had mishandled her that day?
What if I wasn’t sensitive enough?
What if I had looked at her and said “Cyblack is not for someone like you”?
- I would have been the person who failed at his duty.
- I would have been the person who slowed down what could have been.
- I would have said NO to one of the people who is now showing up in her full capacity for CCF and the students coming behind.
God forbid.
For a fact, I am always going to be rooting for you “Oly Baby”
One thing i think everybody should hold on to is that This thing is bigger than us sometimes.
We just have to stay open.
The person in front of you today might one day return and show you that the small thing you did years ago actually mattered. And that reminder can reconnect you to your original “why.”
Also, if you are student studying cybersecurity or you know one, let them know this bootcamp is for them

Something just happened to me tonight and I can't explain my feelings
All I know right now is that I am in some feelings
I'm happy
I am proud of my actions
I feel fulfilled
I'm grateful for not misusing opportunities given to me
And more importantly, I'm happy that I didn't turn out to be that person who did not give people their deserved chance to achieve their goals or maximize their potentials

Day 32 - Build Log
Today I attended the onboarding session for my internship at @Cyblackorg
We were welcomed into the program and introduced to the structure, expectations, and what it takes to get the most out of the experience. It was also valuable hearing from alumni who shared their journeys and practical advice on collaboration and being effective team players.
One key message I took from the session was the importance of pulling your weight, being active, contributing meaningfully, and bringing your existing skills into your assigned team to achieve shared goals. Another important reminder was to stay humble enough to learn, but confident enough to contribute what you already know.
It was a great session, and I’m genuinely excited to begin this phase of the journey and documenting my experience.

Day 31 - Continuing the Journey
Hit a major breakthrough today while working on my DVWA Vulnerability Scan & Exploit Lab.
I finally figured out why OpenVAS wasn’t working correctly; the issue was tied to the NVT feed sync status. Scan configurations are populated from the feed, so if the sync isn’t complete (or still refreshing), key options like the scan config dropdown remain greyed out.
To fix it, I restarted the gvmd daemon and monitored the sync process using logs (/var/log/gvm/gvmd.log) until it fully completed. It took a while, likely due to limited system resources, but once done, everything worked as expected.
I successfully created a new scan targeting DVWA, ran it, and moved to exploitation. Using Metasploit, I leveraged a command injection vulnerability to establish a reverse shell and gain an interactive session.
This was a full cycle moment:
troubleshooting, scanning, exploitation, access
Lesson: sometimes the biggest blocker isn’t the attack, it’s understanding how your tools actually work under the hood.
