Come play with us at Harborview Terrace Houses! 🛝
This week, the Public Housing Community Fund, The Pershing Square Foundation, NYCHA, the Harborview Terrace Houses Resident Association, Grain Collective, and partners unveiled $3.8 million in resident-led open space improvements in #HellsKitchen — transforming approximately 33,000 square feet into vibrant places to play, gather, garden, exercise, and connect.
Your story. Our history. 🏙️
Every NYCHA community has a history worth remembering. Every resident has a story worth telling.
Were you raised in #NYCHA? Do you live there today? We want to hear from you!
The Public Housing Community Fund is inviting current and former NYCHA residents to share their memories and experiences as part of Revitalizing NYCHA's Archives: Honoring Our Legacy, Building Our Future.
Through oral-history interviews, we're working with NYCHA and the LaGuardia and Wagner Archives to preserve the voices, experiences, and contributions of public housing residents for generations to come.

From Revolving Voices, an interactive sculpture created by From Roots to Arts artist-in-residence Tamra Cosby in collaboration with The Urban Conga, to The Home That Inspired the World by Tats Cru and Mark Lawrence, a mural celebrating 75 years of Bronx River Houses and its rich cultural legacy, each tour offered an opportunity to explore the stories, creativity, and histories that make these communities so special.
A huge thank you to our artists TatsCru, @TheUrbanConga 5thvisionart, Tamra Cosby, @DomGloverNY, Anubis, residents, and partners The Harlem Bombshelter, HANAC Astoria Cornerstone, , @NYCHA, @CASW_BronxRiver, @photoville, @bbgconnects, and @ohny for helping us open these spaces to the broader public and celebrate the importance of preserving and uplifting the cultural contributions of NYCHA communities.

🎉 We’re thrilled to celebrate Regina Carter — a three-time Public Housing Community Fund Climate Action Grant winner — on being named a 2026 David Prize winner!
thedavidprize.org/winners/re…
Regina is turning one New Yorker’s discarded furniture into another New Yorker’s home. Through Repurposed Life, she’s kept more than half a million pounds of furniture and other items out of the waste stream and helped more than 5,000 families since 2024.
We’ve been proud to support Regina’s work through our Climate Action Grants and partner with her to bring free furniture directly to NYCHA communities.
Now, The David Prize is investing $200,000 in her big idea and what comes next.
Resident-led. Climate-smart. New York strong. ♻️🏠💚
Congratulations, Regina! We’re proud to be part of your journey.

📣 REVOLVING VOICES: Astoria Houses, in residents’ own words.
From the beginning, From Roots to Arts was designed to ensure that public art in public housing doesn’t simply arrive in a community but grows from it.
Working alongside artist Tamra Cosby and The Urban Conga, Astoria Houses residents helped shape Revolving Voices through photography, storytelling, creative-building activities, conversations, and community voting. Residents reflected on the past, present, and future of Astoria Houses and shared their own memories and experiences of the place they call home.
Tamra continued those conversations throughout her residency, transforming what she heard into the written work incorporated directly into the finished sculptures, including the powerful reminder that “voices echo through time.”
The result is more than a new public artwork. It is a platform for community voice, memory and possibility, created with Astoria Houses residents and rooted in the stories already living there.
From Roots to Arts connects local artists with NYCHA residents through community-based artist residencies, creating new ways for residents and artists to tell stories together and redefine what art in public housing can look like. The program is generously funded by the Mellon Foundation, Humanities in Place program.
From Roots to Arts is part of Connected Communities, advancing participatory planning and design to strengthen both the physical and social connections between residents and their communities.

🌿✨ Green Space Connections 3.0 is here!
We’re hitting the ground running across all four sites, joining Family Days, meeting residents, sharing what’s coming, and getting excited about what we can build together.
And this is only the beginning. 💚
Participatory design kicks off in September, giving residents a real voice in shaping the future of these spaces.
More events, more ways to get involved, and more updates are coming soon. Follow along! 🌱

Looking back at the opening of a space built for learning, connection, and opportunity at Harborview Terrace Houses. 💙
From the first day, the goal was simple: create new pathways and possibilities for NYCHA residents, and build something that can grow for years to come.
The 53,000-square-foot transformation at Harborview was brought to life through the love and dedication of the community, our team, the designers at Grain, the contractors at CLS, and the generous support of our funding partner, the Pershing Square Foundation.
Let’s bring more JOY to NYCHA campuses across the city.

On August 8th, we brought together residents, artists, and community partners for a day of wellness, connection, and exploration through public art. 🚲🎨
Joined by 20 riders, we traveled 14.5 miles from Riis Houses in Manhattan to Borinquen Plaza in Brooklyn, exploring how community engagement, storytelling, and preservation come to life through public art.
Along the way, we activated our Art at NYCHA guide on @bbgconnects the free arts and culture app, connecting riders to the stories, histories, and artworks rooted in NYCHA communities.
This experience would not have been possible without our incredible partners at @UpwayShop who provided e-bikes for an exhilarating test ride, and @NYC_DOT who provided helmets to help keep our riders safe throughout the journey. 🚲✨
A huge thank you to our collaborators Jerome Haferd Studio, @CUA_Design and especially @NYCthrive who welcomed our riders and gave us an inside look at what it takes to create meaningful public art with community and build a brighter, more equitable future for public housing across NYC.
Turn on post notifications to stay informed about our next ride! 💫

Good always comes from the bad. You just need to look for it.
116 graduates. Six weeks. 150 hours of training. Lifesaving skills that can last a lifetime. 🌊🏊♀️🎓
We’re proud to celebrate the largest Swim Safety Corps class yet - 116 young New Yorkers from across all five boroughs who completed an earn-while-you-learn program combining swimming and water safety, CPR/AED certification, career exploration, mentorship, surfing, kayaking, open-water training, and exposure to opportunities across New York City’s blue economy.
Now in its fourth year, Swim Safety Corps is about more than learning to swim. It’s about safety, confidence, access and opportunity, helping young people build a lifelong connection to the water while addressing longstanding disparities in swimming and water safety education. – at Cuba
Congratulations to every member of the 2026 Swim Safety Corps. We are incredibly proud of what you accomplished and excited for where these skills will take you next. 💙
The Public Housing Community Fund and Rising Tide Effect are grateful to our partners at @nycmayor, @nycha, @nycyouth, @nycparks, @FDNYFC, and to the many organizations and funders who made this year’s program possible, including Bloomberg Philanthropies, NYC Ferry, the Fund for the City of New York, the May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation, Laru Beya Collective, The New York Climate Exchange, Billion Oyster Project and others.
Swim safety matters. And access to the water should belong to every New Yorker.
