In this episode of From the Archives, Katherine Satriano explores a Columbia medical student’s notebook from 1878-1879, filled with meticulous lecture notes and gorgeous illustrations from his time observing at New York Hospital. More than beautiful penmanship and artistic accuracy, it also captures a moment when Joseph Lister’s antiseptic method was still new enough to be explained and debated. Pretty cool.
