At #Chances we help young people, who are disengaged with education, to learn new skills so that they can thrive in mainstream education.
Today is my first day as Headteacher. Y11 results show what's possible: 100% of students sat their exams and 50% achieved 2+ levels of progress.
Now we build on that—rebuilding confidence, creating opportunity and inspiring futures.
After 16 years at Chances School, Headteacher Gary Hayes is moving on to become Inclusion Lead for the Blackdown Trust. His inspiring leadership helped secure two consecutive Ofsted Good judgements. Thank you, Gary! 💙 Welcome, Kim Hall. #ThankYouGary

At Chances School, every wall tells a story.
Our displays reflect our pupils – their journeys, achievements and voices. For many, mainstream hasn’t worked, so creating a space that feels safe, inclusive and truly theirs matters.
Early intervention changes outcomes.
Students at Chances celebrated #WorldBookDay with themed cupcakes, staff “shelfies” and writing book synopses for the library. Reading is vital for building literacy, imagination and confidence, helping students engage across all learning.Thank you to Book Relief for your support

A highlight of the year at Chances! Our students planned, prepared & cooked an incredible Christmas meal, proudly served to them by our staff. With brilliant support from Steve, the food was outstanding and the perfect way to head into the holidays.
🎄 Our Chances students visited St Gregory’s Church to help decorate their Christmas trees — a wonderful tradition we look forward to every year!
Great fun for the kids and a brilliant way to stay connected with our local community. ✨ #Community #Christmas #Education
December is here at Chances School!
Students are diving into their Puzzle Adventure Calendars, a fun daily challenge all month long. 🧩

Every year, our students and staff team from Chances work with the Dawlish Rotary Club to send Christmas shoeboxes filled with gifts to children in Moldova. Here they are preparing this year’s boxes - spreading kindness across borders! 🌍✨ #Community #ChristmasShoeboxAppeal
At Chances, every student has a dedicated Key Worker who supports their emotional and social needs outside the classroom. This one-to-one or small group time helps students feel understood, supported, and ready to succeed - both in learning and in life.
Congratulations to all our students receiving awards and certificates this week for excellent attendance and positive behaviour! Hard work, commitment, and positive attitude make our school community shine. #StudentSuccess
Chances students had a fantastic day at Stantyway Farm in Otterton! 🌾🚜 They learned all about organic farming, explored crops & equipment, met the farm’s cows and bulls, and even enjoyed a ride on a tractor carriage! 🐄🌱 #FarmVisit #OutdoorLearning #ChancesEducation
Our students regularly explore our school values - Resilience, Respect, and Opportunity - through creative wall displays. This term, they’ve focused on Respect, taking inspiration from actor @VancityReynolds (Ryan Reynolds) and how he shows it in his work and life. #Respect
