Carta CSO, Davis Thacker says the future of software may mean getting customers out of your own app and letting them do the work inside Claude or ChatGPT instead:
"One of the things that we've really been focused on is getting people out of the traditional Carta web browser and moving them into Claude or ChatGPT. Really investing in our plug-in ecosystem, really investing in our MCPs."
"If you were to try to deploy agents on what private market funds to invest in, they wouldn't know where to start because they don't have the right data to look off of."
"The way to think about our business today is effectively system of record software, AI managed services on top, and then basically work inside your harness."

Anthropic launched a plugins marketplace for Claude last week. We shipped our plugin suite in April.
MCP is the outlet. A plugin is the appliance that actually gets the job done.
Our CPO breaks down why we went deep instead of wide: carta.com/blog/plugin-vs-mcp…
The plugin pulls from live cap table data, applies hold periods, tenure, and participation caps by stakeholder type, and recalculates instantly as assumptions change.

VC funds from 2017-2019 are posting record TVPI and sliding IRR: same funds, same vintage. 2017's 90th-percentile TVPI just hit 4.14x (up from 3.31x); its 90th-percentile IRR fell to 25.7% (from 28.7%).
The gains are real. The exits aren't. Report here: carta.com/data/vc-fund-perfo…

New Carta x @Vestwell data found an interesting link between employee equity and retirement plans: employees with a 401(k) exercise options at 26.1%, vs. 22.8% for those without one.
At a 500-person company, that gap = ~15 more employees exercising their options. Equity gets you upside. A 401(k) gets you the confidence to actually take it. Full report: z.carta.com/4yvzlim

AI companies didn't come out of nowhere. Track every company classified as AI today back through their raises: in 2018, they were already pulling 37 cents of every startup dollar.
They crossed the majority line in 2024, and by H1 2026 it's 59 cents.
"AI native" makes it sound like this group was born in the current wave. It was raising serious capital years before the name existed.

1/ Cap tables used to live in spreadsheets. One typo, one missed update, and a founder's ownership records were inaccurate. @cartainc fixed that.
