NEW: A report from #TrialWatch and American Bar Association Center for Human Rights reveals the Kenyan law against female genital mutilation has been used overwhelmingly to target survivors who underwent FGM, rather than the perpetrators.
Kenya’s anti-FGM law can and should be vital in combating #FGM – but it has been turned against the very people it seeks to protect. It's time to make it clear as recommended by the African Commission: no survivor of FGM should ever be prosecuted.

Very disappointed to hear that union organiser and HRD @OMasaraure was found guilty of obstruction charges today in Zim & detained. The judicial harassment of Obert has been going on far too long and must end @MoFA_ZW Sentencing is tomorrow. I'm hoping it will be non-custodial.

For #WorldPressFreedomDay, @jczamora, son of Guatemalan #journalist José Rubén Zamora shared the following quote on his father's continued incarceration. @chr_aba published a report on his trial, concluding that his prosecution was an “abuse of process”.➡️bit.ly/4djvWJF

ALT Quote from Jose Zamora, "“On this World Press Freedom Day, my father, Guatemalan journalist Jose Rubén Zamora, has been unfairly locked up for 644 days without trial. But no bars can silence our quest for truth, nor my father's dedication to journalism and freedom of the press. Journalism is not a crime, and Guatemala’s judiciary should stop holding him hostage for denouncing corruption. We demand his fair trial without delay.”

CFJ's dynamic video highlights @sowore's treason case. ABA CHR monitored Sowore's trial for over 4 years as part of the @TrialWatch initiative. The resilience of our monitor in persisting with the trial was absolutely crucial to his case finally being struck out.
The treason case against @sowore in Nigeria was finally struck out in February, after more than four years of unfair proceedings during which TrialWatch monitored his trial and published a report on his case. One month ago today, he finally reunited with his family in the US.
