25 years ago today, we introduced the iPod. 1,000 songs in your pocket. A small team. An unforgiving deadline. We had months to bring the hardware, software, and music experience together. Proud of what we built and that it means so much to people still today. A device that has been woven in many ways into our lives. People have filled their iPods with road trips, breakups, workouts, special occasions with family and friends. How cool that the iPod has become part of culture and our stories. 25 years, it’s hard to believe! Celebrating the team that made it happen today 👏 @StevenLevy was there from the start @WIRED wired.com/story/im-still-con…

Connie Chan is a regressive and terrible bureaucrat who wants rents to be $10,000 per month in SF Anti tech, anti housing, anti prosperity, pro grift, pro crime That the Pelosi machine threw their weight behind her and Gary McCoy is a disgraceful joke
It could not be more stark, according to the data. You could have the hardest-working, most prodigious Congressional representative or the most obstructive. “Based on 84 votes she cast on land use since she joined the board in 2021, Chan was second only to former Board President Aaron Peskin in amassing a record consistently opposed to liberalizing housing regulation.” “From Wiener’s first session in the state Senate in 2017-2018 through the 2025-2026 session, he authored the most bills of any legislator in the chamber, at 186. Of those bills, 97 passed and were signed by the governor — the second-most over that period.” sfchronicle.com/politics/art…

I'm not fond of being unoriginal but I couldn't help it. I named my OpenAI Dot "Alfred" since I grew up a comic geek and loved The Dark Knight. I assume 8% of men that use Dots named it "Jarvis" (from Iron Man), 6% named it "Alfred" and 3% named it "Pennyworth" 😂 #AI #OpenAI

"Capitalism created the possibility of the win win win. It used to be a zero sum game where somebody won, somebody else lost. The biggest mistake people make they still think we're in a zero sum world. They're obsessed with some billionaires because Bernie Sanders thinks that @JeffBezos and @elonmusk somehow stole the money from the people. They don't understand that it's this prosperity machine that's creating more, not just for those billionaires, but for everything that they're touching. They're creating value for their customers, they're creating value for their employees. Their suppliers are flourishing, their investors are seeing their capital go up. It can be reinvested and compound. All philanthropy ultimately comes from business. That's where the profits are. Where does all the taxes come from? It ultimately comes from business as well. This is the engine that's lifting humanity out. The entrepreneurs are the drivers of that engine. Somebody like Elon Musk, he gets a very, very, very tiny sliver of the value that he creates for the whole world." — @iamjohnmackey

Excited to welcome Orchestra Bio and @ashokaraj_ to OpenAI as we broaden our work in AI-assisted drug discovery!
We’ve acquired Orchestra Bio, a platform that helps biopharma teams coordinate the complex process of drug development. Together, we’ll build on Rosalind, our AI models and tools for life sciences research, to streamline those operations and help new treatments reach patients sooner. Welcome @ashokaraj_ and team! openai.com/index/openai-to-a…

Two years ago Jake Bauers told his agent he was retiring. The plan was that his wife would go back to teaching and he would stay home with their kid. Three days later she told him she was pregnant, so he went back to work instead. For the insurance. Tonight he hit the go ahead home run in the National League Championship Series. Here is the whole thing. He is from Newport Beach, California, and he went to Marina High School in Huntington Beach. San Diego took him in the 7th round. Then seven organizations in 11 years. He hit for the cycle with Cleveland once. He has also been traded four times, sent down, taken off a 40 man roster and signed to three different minor league deals. He is a career .224 hitter. Two years ago he hit .199 with 118 strikeouts, and he decided that was enough. He figured the last good swing of his career was a home run he hit in a wild card game that October. He was fine with that being the end of it. Here is how he describes what happened next. "She tells me she's pregnant." And then this. "Obviously, she wasn't going back to work, so we decided I was going to keep playing." And the reason, in four words. "We needed health insurance." So he did not retire. Milwaukee took him off the roster that November anyway. He went into free agency, re-signed a minor league deal in January, and made the team out of spring training. This year he hit .266 with 26 home runs and 86 RBI and an .873 OPS. He is 31 years old and it is the best season of his life by a wide margin. In game 2 of this series he fouled off pitch after pitch against Yoshinobu Yamamoto, 12 of them in one at bat. Here is what he said about that. "I decided that he wasn't going to get me." And here is what he said about his wife a few days ago. "We have two kids, so she's holding it down at home by herself a lot of the time, which is a lot." And this. "She stuck by me this whole time when it wasn't always easy." And then he said this about himself. "I wasn't always the best husband. I wasn't always the best father." Here is the honest part. He is still a .224 hitter for his career and one great season does not erase 11 years of being almost good enough. He had not homered once in this postseason before tonight. But the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6 to 2 and they are up three games to none. A man quit baseball two years ago. His wife got pregnant, they needed the insurance, and he went back to work. For more stories like this, follow us on any platform @thesportsontap

it is crazy how retention standards have fallen so hard in the age of ai tiktok and ig have >30% d30 retention no ai chatbot has matched that hence why people are so desperate to unlock multiplayer ai products with network effects
Meta Muse's retention is out, and it's almost as good as ChatGPT! It's higher than ChatGPT at D7 (>30%) and just lower at D14 (22%). Not quite in the elite D14 tier of WA (67%) YT (59%) Insta (54%) or TikTok/Snap (37%), though. Muse is one of the highest retaining AI products!

Today we are announcing our biggest bet yet on our own silicon. Starting next calendar year, we will scale our Maia family to multi-gigawatt deployments, making it the primary inference system for our own product and services. And we’re introducing Maia 300, which delivers 40% more tokens per watt compared to leading GPU-based systems. We are already deploying Maia 200 across the US, Europe, and Australia, delivering up to 1.7x more tokens per watt across experiences in Teams and Copilot. Our goal is to build on the full-stack efficiency gains we’ve already seen, while continuing to bring the latest innovations from across the ecosystem into our fleet.
