Been meeting with a lot of Y Combinator founders lately. Blown away by how well they all understand building for true PMF. Few.
Decided to reprioritize my health, and I'm now lifting the same weights I did over 20yrs ago. Making @rektdiomedes proud 💪
Sadly someone very special to me was just diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
Arguably one of the kindest and best-hearted humans that’s ever touched my life. She’s also a public school teacher, like a lot of members of my family.
We launched a GoFundMe this week to help support her and raised $100K in a single day. This is the type of support our teachers deserve. I love you all. 🫶
Every amount is meaningful 🙏

It’s a brutal heatwave here this week. I’ve stopped wearing underwear, which has made our daily stand-ups a bit awkward.
We like to do things as a family, so last night we played danceball, a sport we invented. It’s dance battle meets dodgeball. So, if you’re an embarrassing dancer you’ll now physically pay the price.
I’m in my 40s, happily married to a smoke-show, and have a rad kiddo. But… if I were in my 20s and single this is what I’d 💯do:
Step 1: Secure a fully remote job that pays competitive US salary.
Step 2: Move to a much cheaper country on a similar time zone. I work on PST so for me I’d probably pick CDMX/Mexico but I also love Costa Rica, Colombia, Argentina, Portugal - so many dope places to choose from. I’d stay there 6-9mos a year. The more the better.
Step 3: This is the most important one. I would live beneath my means. Yeah money goes further there but that’s not a reason to get a bigger apt, flashier car, or dine out 7 nights a week. I’d get a studio or one bedroom apt in a nice neighborhood, ride public transportation, shop at farmers markets etc. The goal here is to maximize the % of my US salary I can save.
Step 4) Save, save, save (and invest). Once I’d saved up/grown a substantial amount over 5-10yrs, I’d move back to the US and buy property. I might consider Washington or Tennessee (Nashvegas is based) for tax reasons, or I might once again just choose a city/town that simply has a lower cost of living. I’d keep saving, obv at a lower rate than I was able to in Mexico but again I’m building wealth and investing it for growth.
I’d now:
-Own my home/land (and not pay rent).
-Own my car (and not have debt).
-Have enough of a safety net whenever needed (6-12mos of salary).
-Have enough to pay for a ring and my wedding.
-Have enough to support a family (TLDR kids are more expensive than I thought).
-Have a size-able retirement account.
-Have the ability to retire at a younger age.
Arbitrage life my friends 🤝
One of the few folks I truly trust (he’s super smart, super connected, and a high quality human). Proud to call you an IRl friend. Congratulations @John_Vance!
