🚨🌨️ Winter has arrived in Utah and is currently dumping up to 1 FOOT of snow across the Wasatch Mountains, at ski resorts including @AltaSkiArea, @Snowbird, @PCski, @Deer_Valley, @BrightonResort, and @SolitudeMTN. 😍 ⏳🏂 The ski season is not far behind it, with this storm making its way to Colorado next. We should see lifts start to spin within the next couple of weeks, and we can hardly wait! 😆 Where are you planning on making your first turns this winter? 🤷‍♂️

I started laughing crying watching this. The girl rocks
This is hilarious, but it can also be a scary thrill for a lot of people, adults and kids alike! The sky swing ride at amusement parks is something that will get your heart pounding. Most people would’ve been yelling “let me off” if the ride malfunctioned, but this girl showed she had more heart than the boys, and the looks on their faces at the end say it all. Would you let your kids ride this?

Our thoughts are with the communities facing Hurricane Isaias and the first responders helping them. This footage offers a view from the Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters’ mission into the storm, where crews collected weather data to support National Hurricane Center forecasts. If you’re in an affected area, stay #WeatherReady: Follow official weather alerts and local emergency officials’ instructions. Never drive through floodwaters. #HurricaneHunters #ReserveReady

Salt Lake City just broke its record high temperature. The high reached 88° today, breaking the previous record of 87° set in 1993. For perspective, the normal high is just 71°. A pretty remarkable stretch of warmth for early October in Utah. #utwx

BREAKING: Utah's WIDEST tornado on record has been confirmed! The September 18, 2026 tornado was a mile-wide monster! This is the tornado that impacted Francis Peak east of Fruit Heights. The tornado produced EF2 damage, corresponding to maximum winds in the EF2 range, though individual subvortices may have contained winds teetering on EF3 strength. The tornado touched down at 1:44 p.m. near Bair Canyon at 6,000 feet elevation. It felled numerous softwood conifers and hardwood aspen groves. Then it summited Francis Peak and entered Morgan county, causing EF2 damage to conifers. Some trees were "either sheared off completely at the top of the tree or snapped at the base," according to the Weather Service. At this point, the tornado was near 9,500 elevation! Near Middle Smith Lake, the tornado began to descend in elevation. As it approached Dalton Creek, it swelled to 1.1 miles wide – a new state record for Utah! When a column of vorticity, or spin, travels downhill, it's usually stretched and intensified. Perhaps this aided in the tornado ingesting more inflow and expanding. The exact mechanisms remain unclear and will undoubtedly be the subject of further study. At 2 p.m., the tornado dissipated where Middle Fork Peterson Creek meets Left Hand Fork Peterson Creek. That was at 6,200 feet elevation. All told, the tornado had a total elevation change (up and down) of 6,700 feet! The Weather Service also noted that many of the trees felled were 100-200 years old. Tornadoes can and DO happen in mountains. The highest elevation tornado recorded in the United States occurred in Colorado in the West Elk Mountains on May 29, 2021 at a height of 12,600 feet. And on December 27, 2022, a tornado impacted neighborhood near the airport in El Alto, Bolivia (I've been there!). That's 13,327 feet above sea level! El Alto Airport serves the greater La Paz metro area, which is the highest Administrative capital city in the world. (The steep terrain also prevents a train-based metro system, so the entire city is interconnected via a network of teleféricos, or chairlifts!(

🌪️ BREAKING: Francis Peak tornado rated EF2 with 120 mph winds The National Weather Service has completed its damage survey of the September 18 tornado that tore through the Davis and Morgan County mountains, and the numbers are impressive. 🌪️ Rating: EF2 💨 Estimated peak wind: 120 mph 📏 Path length: 5.93 miles ↔️ Maximum width: 1,900 yards (1.1 miles) — a new Utah state record for tornado width ⏱️ Time on the ground: 16 minutes 📈 Total elevation change: 6,700 feet 🏔️ Highest elevation: About 9,500 feet 🌲 Fatalities: 0 🏥 Injuries: 0 The tornado touched down around 1:44 PM near Bair Canyon, about 6,000 feet in elevation, before climbing up toward Francis Peak. As it crossed the summit into Morgan County, it snapped numerous pine trees at higher elevations before turning northeast toward Middle Smith Lake, where some of the most significant damage occurred. Numerous trees were either snapped at the base or completely sheared off near the top. The tornado then descended toward Dalton Creek, where it expanded to an incredible 1.1 miles wide. Aspen groves were flattened and numerous mature pine trees were snapped. Some of the damaged pines are estimated to be 100–200 years old. 🌲 The tornado eventually weakened and dissipated near Peterson around 2 PM after traveling nearly six miles through some of the most rugged terrain in Utah. This was a legitimate EF2 tornado in the Utah mountains, and the combination of its strength, size, elevation change and terrain makes this an extraordinary storm. The NWS says the information is still preliminary and could change following final review.
