Eddie Murphy told a TV crew he didn't know whose baby it was "until it comes out and has a blood test." Court papers now call him an "extraordinarily high earner." He pays $35,000 a month. He started dating Mel B in June 2006, two months after his divorce. In September he said he was "madly in love." In November she announced she was pregnant. On December 5, 2006, promoting Dreamgirls, he told Dutch TV: "You're being presumptuous, because we're not together anymore. I don't know whose child that is, until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn't jump to conclusions, sir." The court record: April 3, 2007: their daughter Angel was born. June 2007: a DNA test confirmed he was the father. February 2009: they settled the paternity case. $25,000 a month in child support. $300,000 a year. 2020: Mel B asked for more, saying her income had dropped in the pandemic. 2022: he agreed to $35,000 a month, backdated to October 1, 2021. $10,000 of her legal fees, paid by him. Under the deal, Angel's health insurance, school and activities are on Mel B. She says she found out they had broken up from that Dutch TV interview. The case for Eddie: before the test he said he would "do the right thing" if the girl was his. He has paid child support since 2009, and agreed to the raise. The case for Mel B: she says the baby was planned, and he said what he said on camera, to the world, while she was pregnant. In the video below she says: "He apologises to this day about that, because that baby was planned. We planned that baby together, and we were madly in love." Was Eddie Murphy right to wait for a blood test, or should he never have said it on TV?

Bob Costas was 18 when his father dropped dead at JFK airport. At the wake, a man handed him a thick envelope with $6,000 in $100 bills. It was everything his father left behind, and a bookie would never have paid it to a dead man. In the video below, he tells the story himself. His father, John, was a big-time gambler. Not casinos, not racetracks. Ball games. Bob says the mortgage was literally riding on his bets. When the games went the wrong way, he threw things, cursed and yelled. Bob’s mom and sister would leave. Bob stayed, because watching the games with his dad was the only way to be close to him. Friday, May 15, 1970. A cop knocks on the door. Before he says a word, Bob’s mother asks, “My husband’s dead, isn’t he?” John Costas had a heart attack walking through JFK. He was 42. At the wake, one of his gambling buddies walked in with the envelope. “Your father was up when he died. Give this to your mother.” A bookie never pays a dead man, so the friend went to the bookie himself and said John sent him to collect. Decades later, Bob Costas refused to read sports betting ads on air. Today the bookie lives in everyone’s phone. Is that progress?
