No one knows for certain why these African lions like climbing and hanging out in trees, but one thing is certain -- they look good doing it! #BigCatWeekend

Charlie Gould has been documenting the wild residents around @governorscamps, Masai Mara, using his WEAPON 4K PLUS cams.
Here, a herd of elephants moves through the unfenced camp. Charlie has managed to capture several species freely navigating this area - stay tuned for more!

Some of the nastiest and most mean-spirited people you will ever encounter exist in academia, especially among people at roughly the same career stage.
Here we see one of Sabatini’s colleagues—Sangeeta Bhatia, a prominent figure at MIT of roughly the same age, but nowhere near his scientific caliber—actively cheering the destruction of his career.
She knew that he had devoted his life to science. Publicly, she presents herself as committed to truth and the advancement of science and technology. Behind the scenes, the record shows her participating in dirty tactics to destroy a rival inside MIT and prevent him from working anywhere else.
So much of academia is built around an age-related hierarchy. Those entering the system at the same time grapple and jockey for position, and this can expose extraordinarily unethical behavior.
Metoo was only one of many causes weaponized inside science. Rarely, however, do we get to see what years of court discovery and weeks of trial reveal about how vicious professors can be toward one another.
🤯
“Hard to imagine how he can be gainfully employed anywhere after this…”
—MeToo hoaxer Kristin Knouse and her MIT accomplices were not content to run David Sabatini out of MIT. They also lobbied private biotech companies to fire him and worked to ensure that no one would hire him anywhere.
What’s shocking about this is that Knouse had spent a lot of time with Sabatini’s son during their friendship, so she knew that she was hurting his child’s financial future too. Evil.

I think I've experienced every conceivable lab meeting organization scheme as an undergrad, grad student, postdoc and PI, and the main conclusion I've drawn is that the format is largely irrelevant. Group meetings work in almost any format when people give a shit about each other's science, and no scheme can overcome it when they don't. Also that pastries are better than lunch.

Footage of a shoebill defending its nest from a Nile monitor by Maggie Hirschauer & the Shoebill Programme at Bangweulu Wetlands, Zambia, where WEAPON 4K PLUS cams monitored a nest.
Nile monitors are egg predators but in this case the shoebill didn't back down!

We conducted lion monitoring in the Kasenyi area in collaboration with Kyambura Lion Team, where Jacob, Tibs and Ngubi were sighted in good health.
Such monitoring is vital in tracking lion movements, assessing their well-being and strengthening #conservation efforts in QENP

The chances of being killed by a landmine delivered by a bear are low, but they are never zero.

An artificial water trough set for warthogs in Mweya, Queen Elizabeth NP, Uganda, sometimes draws some unusual characters & in this case it drew the attention of two big male lions (Tibu & Jacob).
This video was sent to us by @UgandaCarnivore & is one of our recent favourites!

How bad is administrative bloat in higher ed?
At MIT, the “student body has grown by 8% and its faculty by 9% since the mid-1980s. By comparison, the tally of administrators jumped by 189%.”

Guinea fowl in Ghana's Ashanti Region, captured using the WEAPON 4K trail cam!
Amidst fragmented forests & cocoa agroforestry, this region supports diverse wildlife. Camera trapping is vital for conserving species on shared ground & Joseph Kwasi Afrifa's work is doing just that!

In British Columbia’s sub-boreal @jprforest, Dexter Hodder has spent 20 years studying local carnivores - shaping much of what we know about the area's carnivores today.
This season, his solar WEAPON 4K trail cams captured a wolf fishing & a grizzly sow with her cubs!
