Pounds of butter should be packaged with 2 sticks salted and 2 sticks unsalted: cooking butter _and_ eating butter, in a single package. Thanks for coming to my TED talk

It’s insane and absolutely outrageous that game six of WNBA finals is going to be at 9:30amPT. Is there an actual adult in the room that can fix this?

SF ballot box be like “increase sales tax by 1% so we don’t cause a near total collapse in public transit throughout the Bay Area?”
Sf ballot be like “Would you like to increase the San Francisco sales tax to 10% so we can contribute another 980 million dollars to making BART more comfortable for the homeless to sleep in?”

It's not mysterious at all. But if every neighborhood is allowed to opt out of change, the result is a free-rider problem. Exclusionary neighborhoods can free ride off of the neighborhoods that actually allow new housing, businesses, walkable amenities, etc.
Replying to @MattBruenig
It's incredible to me that YIMBYs find it mysterious that people don't like change in their neighborhoods. "Explains a lot about why nobody wants to build housing." Was this not obvious to you before?

Vote YES on RTM! It'll cost an East Bay family that spends $20k on taxable goods/year $100. That's far less than the cost of the time and additional gas it'd take to navigate the resulting congestion from far-reduced transit services
Bay Area residents take 1M+ trips every weekday on our four largest transit systems — to get to work, school & everywhere in between. We can’t let devastating cuts take that away. I’m voting YES on the Regional Transit Measure to keep our region moving. sfgate.com/news/bayarea/arti…

I texted my children that we got the puppy they’ve been begging me for and sent them a link with pictures. 🐶When they clicked on the link, it took them to a webpage that said YOU’RE GROUNDED. They’ll be spending the weekend retaking our family’s cybersecurity training course.

At some point we have to talk about how Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed for far less than what Donald Trump did and is still actively doing.

Man I've been making the YIMBY case against fossil fuels for 15 years and now Chevron just comes right out and ... writes a giant check to the NIMBY. Folks it doesn't get more on the nose than this. NIMBYism benefits the oil industry.
NEW: Chevron just gave $50,000 to support LA Mayor Karen Bass — and defeat Nithya Raman. "They view Karen Bass as someone who they can work with, someone who will protect their interests in L.A. And they view Nithya Raman as a threat to fossil fuels." climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/…

YOU'RE NOT PAYING TAXES FOR THE PROPERTY, YOU'RE PAYING YOUR TOWN FOR THE SERVICES IT PROVIDES. THE ROADS, POLICE, SCHOOLS, FIRE DEPARTMENT, LIBRARY, SNOW PLOWS, EMERGENCY SERVICES AND SO MUCH MORE.
“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century. politico.com/news/magazine/2…

the city requires two parking spaces per apartment, a garage space costs $50k to build, so fewer units pencil out, so rent goes up, so people move somewhere cheaper and farther, so they need a car. the parking requirement manufactures the demand for the parking requirement

It's the car industry's continent. We're just living in it til we realize how much they hate us, and want us dead and broke.
In 2026, in a city, this is fucking insane.

The blowup within the left/Democratic coalition around building stuff -- houses, solar, really anything -- has the potential to crater the Party and destroy actual left priorities for a generation, or longer. YIMBYs saw this coming a decade ago. It's now here.
I’ve been in the clean energy industry as an entrepreneur for 15 years after a prior career in Dem politics as a bona fide progressive. Without changing many of my views I’ve left that community behind. By far the most frustrating experiences I’ve had on the ground developing solar were in counties run by leftie democrats in my home state of Maryland which is behind now on clean energy goals. They always thought they had a better idea or were smarter than the entire solar community combined. I see that same dynamic with @RepHuffman on permitting reform. Jared, your home state of California is BEHIND on the SB 100 goals. Permits, interconnects, transmission are part of the reason why. THIS is the legislation we believe in. We know our businesses and what removes the rate limiters. We need to elect politicians who want to BUILD the future. (Oh by the way Maryland Dem legislature eventually passed a great permitting bill.)
