REWIND… ⏪ September 27, 1994. The day I WAS BORN as an artist. My debut album #brandy was released, and the dream I had carried as a little girl became something I could hold in my hands… my name on the cover, my whole heart in the music. One of the happiest days of my entire life. Everything I dreamed of becoming… a singer, a dancer, an actress, an artist… was alive in that girl. She had so much she wanted to give. She still does. Music means everything to me. It has held so many versions of who I am, and somehow, through every change, it still recognizes me. There are parts of my heart I have only ever been able to reach by singing. To have shared those parts with you for thirty-two years… God, thank You for a life that has allowed my soul to speak. And now, watching my beautiful daughter, @syraismith Sy’rai, follow her own voice… I understand that a dream can come true and still have more to give you. Once, I was the little girl reaching. Now I get to watch my little girl reach for hers. There are places in a mother’s heart that only her child can awaken. Sharing the stage with Usher @usher and Keh @kehlani this weekend, being among my creative peers… I felt that divine spark burning so beautifully. The passion. The love. The joy of creating together. After all these years, music can still make me feel like something extraordinary is about to begin. To everyone who has made room for my voice in your life… thank you. For singing with me. For growing with me. For letting something that began in my heart become part of yours. Today, I wish I could hold that girl from 1994 and let her feel how deeply we are loved. The last time I was at the US Open was in 2002, watching #VenusandSerena face each other in that historic final. More than two decades later, I returned with my beautiful daughter, @syraismith ….and time felt like it folded into grace, fun, joy, and so much laughter. 🎾💛⭐️🎾 We are both tennis players and lovers of the game….🎾#VenusandSerena have always been more than champions to us. There are dreams… and then there are moments that feel as though they were written in the stars long before you ever arrived. ✨👑🩵🩵 To become a @disney Disney Princess was already beyond anything my younger self could have imagined. But to now stand among the beautiful legacy of Disney Princesses, to know that I am forever a part of this magical family, is something I will never take for granted. And there is an even deeper meaning for me. To have been the first Black Cinderella, and to know that the door we walked through helped make the kingdom wider for the beautiful Black princesses who would come after me, is one of the greatest honors of my life. What Whitney Houston @whitneyhouston and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella gave us was bigger than a movie. We showed a generation of little Black girls that the glass slipper could fit them, too. That they could be soft and powerful. Regal and magical. Seen, celebrated, chosen, and centered in the fairytale. And then came more history. @anikaaroundtheworld Anika Noni Rose gave us the beautiful Princess Tiana. Halle Bailey @hallebailey brought a new generation under the sea as Ariel. And today, I get to look around at this ever-expanding kingdom and feel the magnitude of what representation can become when one door opens… and we keep holding it open for one another. 👑🩵🩵🩵 From Cinderella at 18 to Queen Cinderella today, this journey continues to feel like divine poetry. I once stepped into a glass slipper. I could never have imagined the footprints it would leave behind. Haayyy, ♥️💛👑 Red has always felt like resurrection to me. When I wear it, I don’t simply get dress up.. I remember. I remember every version of myself that refused to stay buried. Every season that asked me to surrender. Every fire that tried to consume me but instead taught me how to rise. Red is my phoenix.🐦‍🔥🐦‍🔥 🐦‍🔥 It reminds me that what was meant to end me only revealed more of who I truly am…..through grace that energy found its way into the performance. I didn’t just perform…I soared. Then came yellow. The color of sunshine. The color of joy. The color that has always felt like hope wrapped in light. Wearing it during my tribute to Whitney Houston @whitneyhouston felt deeply sacred. Seeing her before in that very same shade felt like one of those beautiful little winks from the Divine…a quiet reminder that love, inspiration, and spirit are never separated by time. Perhaps one of the greatest gifts of all is sharing moments with artists I have admired , only to discover that the love and respect are mutual. Those moments humble me. I am always reminded that what is meant for us finds us in the most beautiful ways. I don’t take any of it for granted. I am blessed beyond measure. Highly favored. Deeply grateful. Still rising.
